Whitman is located 30 minutes south of Boston. Originally a small factory town that manufactured shoes and now mainly a residential bedroom community. It was the home of the famous Toll House and the Toll House Cookie. Whitman is a quiet community that offers easy access to Boston through a "T" station or the expressway.
Whitman is part of the Whitman-Hanson Regional School system that offers a state of the art high school that is now used as a prototype by the state for other towns. The elementary and middle schools have also been recently remodeled and updated. Whitman hosts a variety of very successful youth sports programs as well as school run high school programs.
Whitman hosts an annual Fourth of July Field Day at the park, with a road race, carriage or bike decorating, pie eating contests and other events. The town is primarily a South Shore residential community serviced by the Commuter Rail that has retained its rural character.
